Description:Maritime Security Operator (MSO) Course The Course The Edson Tiger Training Maritime Security Operator (MSO) course provides you with the qualifications and skills required for employment as a security professional within the private maritime security industry in the UK or overseas, in high risk or benign maritime environments. The course is run in partnership with Fareham College and leads to a recognised UK qualification; City and Guilds, Maritime Security Operative (MSO) Level 3 and qualifies you in Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (in accordance with STCW 10 – Manila Amendments.) There are 2 versions of the course: · A full 5 day course which takes students from all backgrounds and qualifies them as MSOs. · A short 2 day course, the Experienced Practitioners Programme, which takes people with the required training courses and experience at a faster pace to achieve the Level 3 qualification. Qualifications Awarded Successful candidates will be awarded: · City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Maritime Security Operations. · Recognition of the Proficiency in Designated Security Duties qualification (for UK Flagged Ships. For ships of other Flag States you will be required to get the PDSD certificate as normal.) Examination Successful completion of the course is subject to continuous assessment and a final examination. The examination is a paper examination which requires a good level of English language ability. All attending the course will be required to demonstrate that they have the language ability to pass this. Content and Delivery The course covers the 4 units of the City and Guilds MSO syllabus. · Understand the Maritime Security Sector. · Understand pre-deployment and planning procedures. · Understand maritime security operations and operators’ duties. · Understand post incident procedures and reporting. As well as classroom instruction we place a strong emphasis on teaching by demonstration and on dynamic, scenario based training using the latest in ship’s bridge simulation. The course is run at a leading marine training establishment where students have access to professional merchant seamen, who possess years of maritime experience which they will share with you. A visit to a ship is also included. Graduate Scheme Edson Tiger Training also offer a graduate scheme which seeks to support those who attend their courses with employment and job search advice. A briefing from an employer is conducted on the course. Eligibility Though it is not required to attend the course, it should be noted that employment in the Maritime Security Sector generally requires previous military or armed police experience. All students must be 18 years or older and must be able to pass a CRB check if they wish to be employed in the Maritime Security Sector. Cost Full 5 day course = £1000. 2 day EPP Course = £450. (VAT exempt.) Enhanced Learning Credits and Resettlement Grants may be used.
