Qualification: Remote Emergency Medical Technican
Description:
Certificates given Remote EMT BTEC Level 2 (UK) First Person On Scene -Enhanced The Remote Emergency Medical Technician (REMT) covers the City based EMT-Basic curriculum but focuses on aspects of providing medical care in remote, austere & wilderness environments. The course covers prolonged remote care, wilderness wound management, wilderness trauma management, common and simple injuries sustained in remote environments & additional topics in Remote Medicine. Remote & Wilderness medicine differs significantly from city-based medicine. We prepare students for emergency situations which might involve patient care in severe environments & use of improvised equipment. The training essentially prepares you to assume all roles of the Emergency Medical System until further help is available. You may be the only medically trained responder the casualty will have for many hours or days. You will be trained to provide highly effective & often long term medical care. This course is designed for people who will be far out of reach of the medical system. This could be during long term expeditions, while living in third world countries, or in the aftermath of a devastating natural disaster. The course gives certification for mountain rescue, remote area medical practitioners, marine and industrial medical personnel. Five days of front line ambulance placement must be completed prior to certification. Placements are in Johannesburg South Africa or Moldova. Students can find their own placements with prior arrangements with RMI. These must be front line ambulance placements.Location: Ireland
