Last month I completed the 25 day Galahad Advanced Close Protection course in the Czech Republic and can unreservedly recommend it to anyone looking to enter into this line of work.
I spent a lot of time researching course providers before making my choice as it’s a fair chunk of money whoever you decide to go with, but on top of that I felt that with it being a line of work where my own safety was going to be at risk, I was determined to be as well prepared as it is possible to be from the outset, I wanted to go as far beyond the SIA minimum requirements as I could.
This course definitely did just that!
Coming from a civilian background I was initially concerned that I would be starting on the back foot going into this type of work, but all of the instructors and the course itself quickly dispelled that notion. From the outset when we started with the FPOS (i) on day one, everything we learned was rigorously drilled and practiced in a whole host of different scenarios and environments. Whilst there had to be a certain amount of the course taking place in a class environment, Galahad always took whatever we were covering far beyond classroom learning and applied it to practical exercises that forced us to think on our feet and adapt to apply what we had learned.
Week on week everything built on our previous learning, from embus/debus drills through to counter-surveillance, protective driving and live fire exercises, to prepare us for the three day final exercise in Prague which tested everything and everyone to their limits. This isn’t an attendance only course and a lot is expected of you, but what you get in return, in both qualifications and training more than makes the effort put in worthwhile! Can't recommened it enough,
